Book Review
Glacé (The Frozen Dead), by Bernard Minier — 2 ★
Oof, where do I start…
First, let me explain the context in which I read this book, because it may explain a little why I feel like I feel about it.
My boyfriend and I like to have a shared book, which means that I read the book out loud to him, so we both read the book at the same time.
Thereby, because of life being hectic and us not always having time (or the envy) to read our shared book, it took us months to finish it (also, it’s an awfully long book).
I have to admit that sometimes, I didn’t remember that much what had happened in the last chapters we read when we finally got back to it. And let me tell you : A LOT happens in this infinite book.
It’s an intricate intrigue, a very long investigation involving a lot of characters and weird relationships.
For me, it would have been absolutely ok to cut the story in half. A lot of things were not necessary, in my opinion. Moreover, the end was underwhelming and even a little obvious, even if it took more than 600 pages to get there.
Also, I have to say that Servaz, the MMC, was NOT likeable at all. Jealous, paranoid, macho… nothing for me to like, really. Also; what the heck is going on between him and his best friend’s wife??
To finish, what to say about the numerous mysoginistic and homophobic comments… I get that the book was written in 2011, but still… It made me cringe during my whole read.
It will not come as a surprise to you that I won’t be reading anymore Bernard Minier, uh?
How about you? Do you know that author? Do you like him? Tell me everythingggg!
Love xx
