From Blood and Ash

Book Review

From Blood and Ash, by Jennifer L. Armentrout — 4.5 ★

I don’t think it’ll come as a surprise if I tell you that I heard about this series on social media.

And yes, I’m AWFULLY LATE to that party. But hey, better late than never, right?

As I was scrolling down on Bookstagram at the beginning of the year, I was seeing a looootttt of posts about an upcoming release, a certain War of Two Queens book everyone was talking about.

As I am very curious (and also because the book was very pretty and because YES I wanted to be part of that happy group of people knowing what this was all about), I looked into it and quickly understood it was a series and that this War of Two Queens was the FOURTH book in it. Oops.

I then took a look to see what the first book was and bought it on Audible without further ado.

And MY OH MY was it a great idea.

First, Stina Nielsen’s performance as Poppy is *Chef’s kiss*. Seriously, I’m so glad I listened to it instead of reading it because as of now, Poppy’s voice will always be Stina’s amazing voice and it makes me very happy.

Second, I just fell in love with the world and the characters. The world building is GREAT and all the twists and turns were perfectly timed, in my opinion. I also really liked Poppy, while I’m usually quite picky with my main female characters. I don’t give them my love so easily, but I felt like Poppy was quite nice (altough I’m really wondering, at that point, if she’s ever gonna stop PUNCHING PEOPLE??).

Of course, I can’t NOT talk about Hawke. The mysterious and dark and hot and witty Hawke.

Let me tell you something about Hawke. Or should I say Let me warn you about Hawke.

My warning? DON’T GO LOOKING INTO HIM. Don’t ask yourself why on Earth he’s not on everyone’s book boyfriends list. Or why when you look for #HawkeFlynn on Bookstagram, you find almost nothing.

Seriously.

Don’t.

Because I did, and I spoiled myself HORRIBLY.

But the thing you can understand from my mishap with Hawke is that I was SO CHARMED by him that I couldn’t understand why he was so absent from social media!

So yes, with no originality whatsoever : I lovvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvve him!

Maybe, at this point, you’re wondering : Girl, if you liked the book that much, why is it only 4.5 stars and not 5?

BECAUSE I grew tired of Poppy being SO VIOLENT with everybody annnnnnd the last line of the book made me go Ehh… I thought it was an easy ending. And also a little bit weird.

STILL CAN’T WAIT TO DIVE INTO KINGDOM OF FLESH AND FIRE THOUGH!

Ok, I’m done screaming on you.

Have you read any JLA books? What do you think?

Love xx
