Book of Night

Book Review

Book of Night, by Holly Black — 4 ★

Cute story : my boyfriend came back home the other day with that book for no reason. He just stopped by the Bookstore and got it for me ♥.

Although I have the whole Folk of the Air series on my shelves, I haven’t got to reading it yet. Book of Night is then my first book by Holly Black!

Personally, I really enjoyed it! I saw a lot of mitigated opinions on Bookstagram and Goodreads. Maybe it’s precisely because I haven’t read anything else by Holly Black, and I couldn’t compare this book to her other work, but I was captivated by the world she was slowly creating for us in this book.

I admit I was slightly confused at first, since, let it be known, there is no real explanation of the world. It all just falls into place as the story progresses. The whole shadow magic thing got my attention right away and I loved getting to understand it better gradually.

I also really liked Charlie Hall, the FMC! I thought she was authentic, flawed, reckless, impulsive, vulnerable… For me, she was beautifully written.

And what can I say about Vince! I never saw it coming, and that’s all I’ll say.

The ending had me screaming for book 2, so yeah, I guess you can say I definitely enjoyed my read!

Now onto The Folk of the Air series? What do you think?

Love xx
